This attorney position is located in Atlanta, Georgia, and supports SunTrust’s Consumer business segment.  Within the Consumer segment, SunTrust offers consumer and commercial deposit and lending products to affluent clients through its Private Wealth Management (PWM) line and to small businesses through its Small Business Banking (SBB) line.  This position will support the consumer deposit and lending products and services to these clients.


The attorney’s primary responsibilities will include the following:


·         providing legal advice and support to PWM individual clients in relation to consumer products and services and consumer lending products and services

·         acting as primary attorney for the Physician’s Lending group, including attending committee meetings of the Physician’s Lending group

·         coordinating with Commercial Lending attorneys to ensure appropriate legal support for PWM clients’ business lending needs and PWM attorneys to ensure appropriate legal support for  trust issues

·         providing legal advice and support to SBB clients in relation to consumer deposit products and services

·         providing legal advice and support to SBB clients in relation to lending products and services below the $100,000 threshold (or whatever threshold is implemented at any given)

·         coordinating with Commercial Lending attorneys ensure appropriate legal support for SBB lending needs

·         coordinating with PWM attorneys on appropriate tactics, campaigns, and activities for licensed teammates operating in branches, including ensuring that incentive compensation plans for branch teammates align with regulatory  requirements for licensed individuals

·         demonstrating mastery of all laws and regulations applicable to clients’ activities (e.g., Regulation U) and working with the appropriate PWM, Consumer, and Wholesale compliance officers to provide accurate interpretation of laws applicable to PWM and SBB products and services

·         apprising clients of developments in the laws applicable to their products or services through the established Regulatory Change Management process

·         advising clients and other stakeholders during regulatory exams

·         assisting the Procurement Contracting team regarding the terms of contracts with vendors for internal clients’ products or services, as applicable

·         developing appropriate templates and tools to assist teammates to provide quality products and services in an efficient manner

·         accepting other responsibilities as assigned



Minimum Qualifications:
  • J.D. from accredited law school
  • 7 years of experience practicing consumer banking law
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities on a regular basis
  • Experience working in financial services industry
  • Exceptional work ethic and passion to win
  • Initiative to solve problems, not merely spot them

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10 or more years of experience practicing law in a relevant field
