Summary: As part of the Total Rewards Center of Expertise, this role is responsible for the design and development of executive level Total Rewards strategies, programs and practices for the Company. Provides leadership and planning to prepare all agendas and supporting materials for the Compensation Committee meetings of the Board of Directors including Executive Benefits topics as they may arise. Prepares the Compensation, Discussion & Analysis section of the Proxy statement including all development of tables and exhibits. Provides leadership for the effectiveness of existing Executive Total Rewards (includes both Executive Compensation and Executive Benefits) policies, guidelines and procedures. Recommends revisions as well as new plans to achieve cost effectiveness and appropriate executive level pay for performance. Provides advice to leaders/managers on Total Rewards decision and strategies. Leads the annual executive compensation nomination process including the communication and quality control dimensions. Actively partners with the Board’s Executive Compensation Consultant and all other 3rd party vendors to ensure achieving the best guidance to solving problems.
In addition, to the above mentioned Executive Compensation responsibilities, this position is also responsible for compensation consulting related to the Company’s Corporate Functions: EIS, Finance, HR, Risk, Marketing, and Legal. As part of the Total Rewards Executive Compensation & Corporate Functions Compensation Consulting teams, this role provides advanced subject matter expertise regarding Total Rewards (which includes Compensation, Benefits, and Recognition strategies). Activities include market assessments of existing as well as prospective roles and maintenance of job structures.
Deals with a combination of running projects and executing programs. Heavily focused on strategic work along with a “roll up the sleeves” and get the work done elements. Exercises high levels of leadership, influencing, negotiation and persuading at the executive and manager level. Maneuvers through all levels and gets work done through others and collaborates across the functions
Minimum Requirement: Bachelors Degree with a concentration in Total Rewards or related skill (Accounting, Finance, Tax, Compensation, and/or Benefits)
15 years of related experience in Human Resources, Corporate and/or Consulting environments to include management and leadership experience. Strong ability to communicate highly technical information, both in writing and verbally, in an effective “layman’s way”. High attention to detail and demonstrate keen and accurate analytical skills. Effective integration of diverse opinions – legal, tax, internal audit, accounting, finance, executive Total Rewards, communication – in order to ensure the best quality decision-making. Strong communication, interpersonal, teamwork, presentation, and organization skills. Ability to plan, coordinate and manage development of issues/programs across multiple areas. Skilled in handling complex organizational issues. Ability to apply judgment to work load and to apply flexibility and prioritization to activities. Ability to work efficiently and effectively while maintaining attention to detail-work “smarter” not “harder”. Ability to build relationships and collaborate cross functionally and to influence without authority. Ability to “sell” a new way of looking at Executive Total Rewards. Learning curve is short – quick learner.
Preferred Requirement: High level of knowledge of SunTrust’s executive organization. Experience in multiple industries/companies, not just financial services/SunTrust. Demonstrated ability leading in an environment where work was done not through hierarchical methods but by leadership and managing by example. Demonstrates courage to challenge “status quo” and lead to a different approach.
