SunTrust is seeking a Global Macro Investment Strategist who will be a part of Private Wealth Management’s (PWM) Investment Advisory Group (IAG) and report directly to the firm’s Chief Market Strategist. IAG is responsible for the creation of investment guidance and portfolio solutions designed to help meet its affluent, high net worth and institutional clients’ goals. 

The Strategist will work in a team environment and help develop and communicate the firm’s global macroeconomic view, capital markets outlook, and asset allocation recommendations using quantitative and qualitative research with a focus on international markets. The Strategist will work closely with their immediate team and thought leaders to:

·         Conduct research studies incorporating long- and short-term themes and market dynamics with an emphasis on international markets (developed and emerging)

·         Develop and maintain research frameworks and models for the coverage of international and regional macroeconomic and market trends

·         Develop insights and recommendations on the movements of the economy, markets, and currencies 

·         Identify strategic and tactical asset class opportunities

In addition, the Strategist will be responsible for utilizing research for the regular generation of publications on the global economy and international markets that are used by both internal and external constituents. The Strategist is also expected to travel on a frequent basis for meetings and events. 

A successful candidate will be experienced, resourceful, intellectually curious, team oriented, and client-service minded with superior presentation skills and expert organizational, technical systems and written and verbal communication skills.

 Job Description

·         Develop and maintain research frameworks and models for the coverage of international/regional macroeconomic trends

·         Create and maintain quantitative and statistical reports used for the identification of macroeconomic and market trends

·         Global macroeconomic and capital markets research and asset allocation recommendations

·         Actively participate in strategy meetings with supporting documentation and rationale

·         Assist with the production of written materials in support of investment strategy and global economic/market outlook


Business Development, Investment Communications and Marketing:

·         Play a key role in communicating the IAG’s macroeconomic investment outlook and strategies through written communications and frequent public speaking to internal and external audiences

·         Establish and maintain influential relationships with investment professionals and management at all levels of the organization

·         Work with Corporate and PWM Marketing and Investment Communications to ensure communication needs are met

·         Assist in the development and distribution of internal and external client materials (including special studies and research assignments, e.g., topical white papers)


Minimum Requirements:

·         10 or more years of relevant global macroeconomic and asset allocation or related experience

·         4-year undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics or other similarly analytical concentration 

·         Broad knowledge of global macro, investment and market-related concepts

·         Strong analytical and communication skills

·         Expert technical systems knowledge

·         Ability to travel greater than 50% of the time

 Preferred Requirements:

·         Strong academic pedigree, e.g., MBA, PhD &/or other post-graduate degree from top-tier academic institutions

·         CFA Charterholder or other relevant designations

·         Deep knowledge of international markets and understanding of key economic, policy, and market drivers

·         Successful track record of translating macro trends into investment ideas

·         Prior positive media exposure &/or track record of publishing global economic/market research for recognized global wealth provider

·         Ability to translate complex analytical information into understandable terms for investment advisors, clients and other audiences

·         Experience with investment research tools such as Factset, Bloomberg, Thompson One, and Haver Analytics 

·         Highly skilled in MS Office PowerPoint and Excel 

·         Fluent in Spanish and Portuguese
