The Communications Specialist role will support the internal Enterprise Information System (EIS) Communications team across their core communication channels and events. In this role, division messaging content will need to be gathered, reviewed, and distributed and in some case created for senior audiences and across EIS. Types of divisional messaging include: organizational announcements, monthly newsletters, surveys, etc. Event planning and marketing operations are core skills needed for executing seamless anchor EIS events including town halls, senior manager meetings, and corporate campaigns such as Performance Excellence Awards and United Way. The role will also require maintaining the various EIS communication channels to ensure that ongoing communication needs are handled on a regular basis.
A successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop and manage relationships with Senior Leaders including the CIO of the EIS organization. The Communications Specialist must be comfortable with leading communication development and support as well as supporting communication activities. One key activity for senior leaders will be able to help plan and organize the biweekly Senior Leadership Team meeting (e.g. create agendas/manage time slots, gather content from presenters, etc.).
Being detail-oriented and process-oriented is a critical skill set needed to be successful in this role, as well as the ability to write and edit communications. The candidate will need to work well in a team environment and support communication partners.
The role will execute against the EIS communications strategy and plan including critical division initiatives and/or general market communications that support the division teams and senior executives. A successful candidate must be able to write communications and creative writing is preferred.
The role will help contribute to defining communication strategy and other creative communication vehicles to help increase communication effectiveness. User design experience is not required but may be helpful in this role. This role will also partner with other members of the EIS Communications Team.
The scope of the role is focused on communications within the Enterprise Information Solutions (EIS) corporate function – the $1.2B Technology division of SunTrust Bank.  The EIS Communications Specialist will interact with a small number of communication individuals within other EIS divisions, ensuring adherence/engagement to the broader EIS communication strategy and agenda. This role requires close interaction and collaboration with the SunTrust Corporate Marketing Communication teammates to inform external or SunTrust wide communications.
Summary:     Responsible for supporting a wide range of communication support for the designated Line of Business (LOB) through the delivery of internal communications that drive desired business results and teammate behavior.  Activities include but are not limited to: planning, developing, and/or implementing communication plans via print, electronic, and/or multi-media communications vehicles; designing and maintaining the contents of internal teammate website; executing teammate recognition programs by working with sales, product, and/or channel on new initiatives, sales promotions, and/or existing process improvement; facilitating logistic and technical support for key management events by adjusting scripts and handling the functioning of all technical and audio/video setup to ensure a seamless and effective run of show meetings; serving as the liaison to all related business partners to address internal communication needs and issues.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint
  • 2 years of work experience in internal communications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong working knowledge of HMTL and/or Share Point software, website design and management, effective technical writing
  • Strong working knowledge of designated LOB
  • 1 year of work experience in financial services industry
  • Prior work experience in implementation of internal communications strategy
    • Familiarity / understanding of marketing communication capabilities, industry practice, and measurement techniques.
    • Awareness of change management techniques, with the ability to position change management concerns or considerations to a senior audience
    • Strong written and oral communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
    • Meticulous organizational skills and the ability to establish and manage against a broad calendar of activities
    • Eye for detail: ability to author, scrutinize, and refine complex communications, distilling them to salient and easy to understand messaging programs
    • Must be able to prioritize and reprioritize
    • Ability to manage and work on multiple projects
    • Expert relationship building skills
    Preferred Requirements: 
    • Fundamental working knowledge of designated LOB
    • Prior work experience in financial services industry
    • Prior work experience in execution of internal communications plan
