Corporate & Investment Banking Summer Analyst Programs

The Corporate and Investment Banking Summer Analyst Program provides experience in a number of disciplines within investment banking, portfolio management and corporate banking at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey (STRH), a full-service investment bank providing a variety of financial solutions and advice to our corporate clients nationwide.

At STRH, you’re given a high level of responsibility as you assume an integral role on a deal team. You will work directly with clients to evaluate ideas and strategies and collaborate closely with senior teammates. As a Summer Associate with SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, you’ll be able to make a meaningful impact, gaining significant responsibilities and quickly honing your professional skills as you work closely with senior bankers. Portfolio Management Summer Analyst

Portfolio Management Summer Analysts will gain an understanding of SunTrust, corporate finance and specifically, debt analysis. You’ll have the opportunity to work with a Portfolio Management team, who focus on the debt profiles of STRH clients and support Investment Bankers, Product Specialists and Risk Managers to deliver strategic solutions to SunTrust's clients.

The STRH Summer Analyst Program allows rising college seniors to develop an understanding of the capital markets and Fortune 1000 clients.

  • The Portfolio Management team analyzes companies' financial operating performance, evaluates industry trends, identifies key risks, mitigates a client's credit profile against our lending parameters and works on cash flow analyses and underwriting credits to sharpen their financial analysis skills.

Wholesale Banking Summer Analyst Program

The Wholesale Summer Analyst Program allows interns to gain an in-depth understanding of the day to day responsibilities of a Wholesale Banking Analyst, gaining exposure to the organization, culture and strategy. Interns will be placed in one of four Wholesale Banking business units and will support internal business partners and external clients.

Throughout your 10-weeks as a Wholesale Banking summer analyst, you will play a meaningful role in supporting internal business partners and external clients. You will expand your leadership and collaborative team skills, as well as industry and technical knowledge. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the other lines of business that you are not placed in within Wholesale via swap days with other summer analysts. Our program also offers vast exposure to senior leaders within Wholesale, a support network of mentors and peers, and the chance to join the close-knit WDP community.

We often offer our top Summer Analysts the opportunity to continue in full time positions in the Wholesale Banking Development program upon graduation.

Training and Coaching

As a Wholesale Summer Analyst you will learn how our Wholesale Banking Division delivers asset management, lending, deposit, capital raising, cash management and merchant card services to a wide range of clients. This internship will place you in one of four wholesale banking business units:

  • Commercial & Business Banking
    Support client engagement through project work for our Industry Specialty, Corporate Finance or Business Execution team. Project work could include industry research, pitch book creation, and trend analysis.
  • Commercial Real Estate
    Support Commercial Real Estate Relationship Managers in one of our four CRE groups (Institutional, REIT, Regional or Community Capital) by underwriting deals, running risk ratings, analyzing portfolios, going on client site visits, and attending credit calls.
  • Treasury & Payment Solutions
    Support a variety of projects for our Product, Business Enablement or Sales team within Treasury. Project work could include compiling industry research for specialization, updating & maintaining pitch books, analyzing product trends, and delivering product case studies.
  • Wholesale Risk
    Provide analytical support to Commercial Portfolio Managers in one of our four Risk segments (Core, Not-for-Profit, Dealer or Municipal) by reviewing financial information, completing annual reviews and renewals, testing collateral validation, researching and qualifying new prospects or underwriting new opportunities.

Enterprise Information Services (EIS) Summer Analyst Program

SunTrust Bank is seeking creative, clever, and passionate people for a summer internship in our technology and operations group. Enterprise Information Service (EIS) develops and supports the systems and tools that enable our 26,000 teammates to serve the financial needs of over 4 million clients.

The EIS Summer Internship Program provides college students with an opportunity to sharpen their leadership, technical, engineering, creative, and business skills through a 10-week working and learning experience. Interns are given a wide range of opportunities and responsibilities in many different specialties. Past Interns have worked on projects involving business process improvements, internal tool enhancements, application development, reporting efficiency, project management, data analysis, social media and more.

Summer Analysts achieving solid performance during the program will be considered for open full-time positions when available.

Training and Coaching

Interns are placed in one of five focus areas, depending on their talent, experience, and business needs. Each intern works primarily with an EIS functional group, such as Application Development, Project Management, Enterprise Operations, or Production Support and has the chance to develop and sharpen concrete skills in a traditional IT or operational team.

Each intern will be also work on summer-long projects that are sponsored by SunTrust Innovation Programs. In this component of the internship, students work in teams with both full-time teammates and other interns to develop prototypes of new services, products, and experiences for SunTrust. On these teams, interns are challenged to go from ideas to working prototypes in just a few weeks.

Focus areas include:

  • Technical
    Support developers, system architects, and programmers in the development and troubleshooting of system applications and web design. Aid cyber security experts in the identification and mitigation of security threats. Participate in building mockups, prototypes, UX/UI design, and design specification documents.
  • Analytics
    Work with business intelligence professionals in extracting and transforming raw data into meaningful information that can be used for reporting and decision making. Utilize industry-wide data analysis tools to generate predictive models and uncover revenue opportunities.
  • Process Engineering
    Assist industrial and process engineers in identifying areas for optimization and redesign of business procedures with a concentration on system reengineering and development of efficient business tools and practices.
  • Business/Project Management
    Support project managers and portfolio directors in the development of business requirements and executive reporting. Learn about the project life cycle by conducting business documentation, scheduling, and control log management.
  • Visual/Creative Design
    Work with innovation engineers to create visually engaging graphics, branding materials, web applications, and more. Includes candidates with a passion for graphic design, technical writing, and storytelling.

Audit Services Summer Analyst Program

SunTrust Audit Services (SAS) provides professional internal auditing services to SunTrust and assists management by identifying risks and opportunities within control processes. Through individual project assignments and broader audit group discussions, Audit Summer Analysts develop a solid appreciation of the financial services industry, the SunTrust organization, and the important role of internal audit in a complex company.

This up to 20-week program includes extensive on-the-job training and ongoing opportunities to gain practical experience applying your analytical skills. Intern assignments are planned September to December, January to May, and June to August.

At the start of the program, you will be assigned to an audit team and a mentor, who will provide professional guidance. Interns should expect to work 20 to 35 hours per week, but schedules may be adjusted based on student availability and specific project needs. Summer Analysts achieving solid performance during the program will be considered for open full-time positions in SAS when available.

Training and Coaching

Audit Summer Analysts will be assigned to a Managing Director’s team. The summer analyst will work as a core team member guided by a mentor. The program provides extensive on-the-job training and practical application of analytical skills. Summer analysts will participate in individual project meetings as well as broader audit group discussions. Valuable opportunity exists to develop significant professional relationships.

Investment Banking Analyst

Investment Banking Analysts work closely with senior investment banking professionals in supporting their team. Analysts create and analyze financial models, develop client presentations and conduct industry research. Analysts also serve as key members of merger and acquisition and capital raising transaction teams, providing credit underwriting support, drafting information memoranda, developing management and investor presentations and facilitating the deal process from start to finish.

  • Investment Banking Analysts participate in six weeks of classroom instruction that consists of an introduction to capital markets products and services, accounting, corporate finance, systems and financial model training designed to give analysts all the tools they will need to be successful.
  • After the classroom training, analysts will join either an industry practice group, which focuses on developing client relationships through industry expertise and delivering a full range of merger & acquisition, strategic advisory, and debt and equity capital raising solutions within a particular industry, or a product group, which focuses on the analysis, structuring and execution of specific advisory and capital raising transactions.
  • The Investment Banking Analyst position is typically a two-year position. At the end of the two-year period, Analysts may be asked to remain in the role for an additional year.

Portfolio Management Analyst

Portfolio Management underwrites and manages the capital SunTrust Robinson Humphrey (STRH) commits to its corporate client base. Portfolio Managers work together with Investment Bankers, Product Specialists and Risk Managers to deliver capital and strategic ideas to the STRH client base. Post close of a transaction, Portfolio Managers lead the credit relationship with their clients and actively manage and monitor the credit profile and exposure levels across their portfolios. Portfolio Management's ability to effectively underwrite and manage the Bank's capital commitments is driven by solid credit analysis, deep understanding of industry sectors covered, a regular interaction with management of our corporate client base.

  • Portfolio Management Analysts career path begins with a structured training program that includes accounting, modeling, corporate finance, underwriting and financial analysis training followed by placement within one of STRH's Industry Groups. Through exposure to a wide variety of corporate lending transactions, analysts will enhance their financial and industry analysis skills, build expertise in corporate finance and underwriting, and develop a comprehensive understanding of their clients and the industries in which they operate.
  • Portfolio Management Analysts are principally responsible for carrying out the credit analysis process for STRH clients, conducting a thorough analysis of the credit quality of both the client and the respective industry to ensure appropriate risk and return for STRH's capital investment. The analysis is conducted using publicly available information as well as private information derived from due diligence calls with the client's management team. After committing to a transaction, the Portfolio Management Analysts support the Portfolio Managers in following clients' performance, analyzing industry performance and assisting with the management of the risk/return profile of their assigned loan portfolio.
  • Portfolio Management Analysts also work closely with Portfolio Managers and Investment Bankers to identify new business opportunities across all product areas, including Banking, Capital Markets and Treasury, and partner with Product Specialists to execute identified opportunities.

Corporate & Investment Banking Full-Time Associate Program

The Associate program provides the opportunity to focus on the transactions of a specific product or industry group. Associates play a meaningful role in financial analysis, pitch preparation, transaction execution and client presentations. The Associate program takes place at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey (STRH), a full-service investment bank that provides a variety of financial solutions and advice to corporate clients nationwide.

Investment Banking Associate

  • Investment Banking Associates join product or industry groups where they are expected to quickly adjust to a fast-paced, dynamic environment. As an integral member of the team, Associates participate in new business development, due diligence, and transaction execution. Associates work with senior professionals to identify and evaluate opportunities and then meet with and present to prospective clients. Associates must demonstrate a mastery of financial and accounting concepts to facilitate the creation or review of in-depth financial models involved in transactions. Associates are also charged with drafting internal and external documents and marketing materials utilized in transactions. Associates often take a lead role in executing transactions and working with clients, attorneys, investors, interested parties and other senior professionals on a day-to-day basis. As a result, strong organizational, communication and leadership skills are necessary to be effective in the position. The majority of Associates will be placed at the Company headquarters in Atlanta.
  • Requirements include:
    • Completed MBA from a leading program
    • Concentration in finance preferred
    • Minimum of 3 years work experience required
    • Previous background in financial services and/or experience as an Analyst preferred
    • Ability to understand complex financial products and desire for significant transaction execution responsibility
    • Proven analytical ability and attention to detail
    • Solid leadership skills and success working in a fast-paced, team environment
    • Superior written and oral communication skills.

Summer Associates play a meaningful role in financial analysis, pitch preparation, transaction execution and client presentations. The Summer Associate program takes place at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey (STRH), a full-service investment bank that provides a variety of financial solutions and advice to corporate clients nationwide.

Investment Banking Summer Associate

  • Summer Associates work on a wide variety of transactions within a specific product or industry group.
  • Interns will:
    • Play a meaningful role in financial analysis
    • Prepare pitches and client presentations
    • Execute transactions.
  • Broad-based exposure to investment banking and our firm, gives Associates the opportunity to assess their interest level and suitability to the various industry and product groups.
  • The internship program will run for approximately 10 weeks in the summer months at our headquarters in Atlanta.
  • We often offer our top Summer Analysts the opportunity to continue in full time positions in our Analyst program upon graduation.
  • Requirements include:
    • Completed first year from a leading MBA program
