Corporate & Investment Banking Summer Analyst Programs

The Summer Analyst program provides experience in a number of disciplines within investment banking, portfolio management and corporate banking at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey (STRH), a full-service investment bank providing a variety of financial solutions and advice to our corporate clients nationwide.

Corporate & Investment Banking Summer Programs: The SunTrust summer programs are designed to expose you to the breadth of transactions and the range of talents our members possess. We'll provide you with a realistic view of STRH through challenging work, practical training and the opportunity to work and socialize with many of our bankers. We'll also provide the insight and advice you need to make an informed decision to join us following graduation.

  • Investment Banking Summer Analyst
    • Investment Banking Summer Analysts will sharpen financial analysis skills, develop an understanding of corporate markets and clients, and gain experience in corporate finance and investment banking products by participating in on-the-job training.
    • Summer Analysts play a meaningful role in supporting internal and external clients.
    • Job responsibilities may include:
      • Conducting financial and market analysis used in new business development and transaction execution.
      • Preparing client presentations.
      • Working on financial models.
      • Performing peer comparison analysis.
    • Summer Analysts will develop a solid understanding of our industry, organization and strategy through in-the-workforce experience.   • Portfolio Management Summer Analyst
    • Portfolio Management Summer Analysts will gain an understanding of SunTrust, corporate finance and specifically, debt analysis.
    • Summer Analysts work with a Portfolio Management team, who focus on the debt profiles of STRH clients and support Investment Bankers, Product Specialists and Risk Managers to deliver strategic solutions to SunTrust's clients. Wholesale Banking Summer Analyst Program

About the Program

Leveraging the guiding principles of Client First, One Team, Profitable Growth and Executional Excellence, Wholesale Banking delivers a suite of products and services regardless of client size ranging from asset management, lending, deposits, capital raising, cash management, and merchant card services. The segment consists of four business units: Commercial Real Estate Banking, Corporate & Investment Banking, Commercial & Business Banking, and Treasury & Payment Solutions in addition to three support units: Wholesale Risk, Wholesale Operations and the Wholesale Business Information Office.

Internship

The 10-week Wholesale Summer Analyst Program allows interns to gain an in-depth understanding of the day to day responsibilities of a Wholesale Banking Analyst, gaining exposure to the organization, culture and strategy. Interns will be placed in one of four Wholesale Banking business units, Commercial and Business Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Treasury and Payment Solutions or Wholesale Risk and will support internal business partners and external clients.

Full-time

The 12-month rotational Wholesale Development Program (WDP) allows recent graduates to gain exposure to a variety of functions within the Wholesale segment, ultimately giving them the unique opportunity to accelerate their professional development and make an impact early on in one of the nation’s leading banks.

Training and Coaching

With a mix of web-based, on -the –job, and self-directed training, interns will gain the valuable skills necessary to launch their career within the Wholesale Banking segment.

As a Wholesale Summer Intern, you will be assigned a mentor to guide you through the summer program. In addition to having a mentor, you will build relationships with your colleagues through various team projects, volunteerism activities, and other networking events.

Enterprise Information Services (EIS) Summer Analyst Program

The Enterprise Information Services (EIS) Summer Intern program provides currently-enrolled college students the opportunity to sharpen their leadership, technical, and business skills through a 10-week working and learning experience. Interns will divide their time between two groups during the summer. Each intern will work primarily with an EIS functional group, such as Application Development, Transaction Operations, or Production Support and will have the chance to develop and sharpen concrete skills in a traditional IT or Operational team. Each intern will be also work on summer-long projects that are sponsored by the SunTrust Innovation Program. In this component of the internship, students will work in teams with both full-time teammates and other interns to develop prototypes of new services, products, and experiences for SunTrust. On these teams, interns will be challenged to go from ideas to working prototypes in just a few weeks.

Interns are given a wide range of opportunities in many different specialties. Past Interns have worked on projects involving business process improvements, internal tool enhancements, application development, reporting efficiency, project management, data analysis, social media and more.

Training and Coaching

The overall goal of the program is for interns to develop skills through real work experience while adding value to SunTrust. As a summer intern, you will be assigned a manager, senior and peer advisors to guide you through the summer program. In addition to having a formal mentor, you will build relationships with your colleagues through various team projects, volunteerism activities, and other networking events. You will also have the opportunity to meet with SunTrust executive leadership team.

Audit Services Summer Analyst Program

SunTrust Audit Services (SAS) provides professional internal auditing services to SunTrust and assists management by identifying risks and opportunities within control processes. Through individual project assignments and broader audit group discussions, Audit Summer Analysts develop a solid appreciation of the financial services industry, the SunTrust organization, and the important role of internal audit in a complex company.

Training and Coaching:

Audit Summer Analysts will be assigned to a Managing Director’s team. The summer analyst will work as a core team member guided by a mentor. The program provides extensive on-the-job training and practical application of analytical skills. Summer analysts will participate in individual project meetings as well as broader audit group discussions. Valuable opportunity exists to develop significant professional relationships.

Investment Banking Analyst

  • Investment Banking Analysts work closely with senior investment banking professionals in supporting their team. Analysts create and analyze financial models, develop client presentations and conduct industry research. Analysts also serve as key members of merger and acquisition and capital raising transaction teams, providing credit underwriting support, drafting information memoranda, developing management and investor presentations and facilitating the deal process from start to finish. The majority of Analysts will be placed at the Company headquarters in Atlanta. The Investment Banking Analyst position is typically a two-year position. At the end of the two-year period, Analysts may be asked to remain in the role for an additional year.

Portfolio Management Analyst

  • Portfolio Management underwrites and manages the capital SunTrust Robinson Humphrey (STRH) commits to its corporate client base. Portfolio Managers work together with Investment Bankers, Product Specialists and Risk Managers to deliver capital and strategic ideas to the STRH client base. Post close of a transaction, Portfolio Managers lead the credit relationship with their clients and actively manage and monitor the credit profile and exposure levels across their portfolios. Portfolio Management's ability to effectively underwrite and manage the Bank's capital commitments is driven by solid credit analysis, deep understanding of industry sectors covered, a regular interaction with management of our corporate client base.
  • Portfolio Management Analysts are principally responsible for carrying out the credit analysis process for STRH clients, conducting a thorough analysis of the credit quality of both the client and the respective industry to ensure appropriate risk and return for STRH's capital investment. The analysis is conducted using publicly available information as well as private information derived from due diligence calls with the client's management team. After committing to a transaction, the Portfolio Management Analysts support the Portfolio Managers in following clients' performance, analyzing industry performance and assisting with the management of the risk/return profile of their assigned loan portfolio.
  • Portfolio Management Analysts also work closely with Portfolio Managers and Investment Bankers to identify new business opportunities across all product areas, including Banking, Capital Markets and Treasury, and partner with Product Specialists to execute identified opportunities. The majority of Analysts will be placed at the Company headquarters in Atlanta. The Portfolio Management Analyst position is typically a two-year position.   • In Commercial Real Estate, you will support Relationship Managers and Portfolio Specialist in financial statement analysis, industry research, and client call preparation.
  • In Treasury and Payment Solutions, you will support Treasury and Payment Sales Officers and Treasury Sales Analysts build and maintain client relationships by assisting with presentations, proposals, pro-formas, client schematics, relationship reviews and other sales tools/exhibits.
  • In Wholesale Risk, you will learn the basic credit analysis skills and support portfolio managers with financial analysis, spread calculation/validation, client service support, borrowing base and covenant calculations/validations and other portfolio servicing requests.

Mortgage Loan Associate Program

The 12-month rotational Mortgage Loan Associate Program (MLA) allows recent graduates to gain exposure to a variety of functions within the Mortgage division, ultimately giving them the unique opportunity to accelerate their professional development and make an impact early on in one of the nation’s leading financial services holding institutions.

Training and Development:

Mortgage Loan Associates will benefit from specialized on-the-job, online and self-directed training and development opportunities. The curriculum focuses on professional development, sales skills, analytical ability, and product knowledge. Each Associate will be part of a cohort group, and will be paired with mentors who will provide guidance and coaching throughout the 12 month training program. Additionally, you will build relationships with your colleagues through various team projects, community involvement activities and networking events. You will gain leadership insight and exposure through a rotational series in different departments.

Rotations

This is a full-time position that will provide an in-depth understanding of the end to end loan process. This includes rotations through the following areas:

  • Mortgage Banking 101 & 102
  • Loan origination (Retail & Consumer Direct)
  • Processing
  • Underwriting
  • Closing

Throughout each rotation, you will play a meaningful role in supporting internal business partners and external clients. Upon successful completion of the program, the Mortgage Associate will be responsible for creating and fulfilling demand to review clients mortgage needs, work with business referral sources to establish new relationships, and have close relationships with banking partners to deepen existing client relationships.

The Associate program provides the opportunity to focus on the transactions of a specific product or industry group. Associates play a meaningful role in financial analysis, pitch preparation, transaction execution and client presentations. The Associate program takes place at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey (STRH), a full-service investment bank that provides a variety of financial solutions and advice to corporate clients nationwide.

Investment Banking Associate

  • Investment Banking Associates join product or industry groups where they are expected to quickly adjust to a fast-paced, dynamic environment. As an integral member of the team, Associates participate in new business development, due diligence, and transaction execution. Associates work with senior professionals to identify and evaluate opportunities and then meet with and present to prospective clients. Associates must demonstrate a mastery of financial and accounting concepts to facilitate the creation or review of in-depth financial models involved in transactions. Associates are also charged with drafting internal and external documents and marketing materials utilized in transactions. Associates often take a lead role in executing transactions and working with clients, attorneys, investors, interested parties and other senior professionals on a day-to-day basis. As a result, strong organizational, communication and leadership skills are necessary to be effective in the position. The majority of Associates will be placed at the Company headquarters in Atlanta.

Corporate & Investment Banking Summer Associate Program

The Summer Associate program provides the opportunity to focus on the transactions of a specific product or industry group. Summer Associates play a meaningful role in financial analysis, pitch preparation, transaction execution and client presentations. The Summer Associate program takes place at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey (STRH), a full-service investment bank that provides a variety of financial solutions and advice to corporate clients nationwide.

Investment Banking Summer Associate

  • Summer Associates work on a wide variety of transactions within a specific product or industry group.
  • Interns will:
    • Play a meaningful role in financial analysis
    • Prepare pitches and client presentations
    • Execute transactions.
  • Broad-based exposure to investment banking and our firm, gives Associates the opportunity to assess their interest level and suitability to the various industry and product groups.
  • The internship program will run for approximately 10 weeks in the summer months at our headquarters in Atlanta.
  • We often offer our top Summer Analysts the opportunity to continue in full time positions in our Analyst program upon graduation.
  • Requirements include:
    • Completed first year from a leading MBA program
