Description

Responsible for monitoring and managing relationships with investment managers; evaluating and selecting new managers. Reviews due diligence studies/analyses completed by Analysts and third-party firms. May work directly with the CIO or other senior managers in creating risks and investment guidelines. For private market investments, may review specific transactions and/or may serve on company Boards.

May manage more junior staff.

Source and maintain competitive array of alternative hedge fund and fund of funds managers through professional network, third-party manager/fund databases, industry capital introduction events and conferences and unsolicited inquires. Narrow list of potential candidates using variety of quantitative and qualitative assessment tools, conduct remote and on-site due diligence meetings with managers/funds and present recommendations/assessment results to Manager Evaluation Group for consideration. Maintain on-going due diligence/monitoring of all recommended/approved managers and funds.

Consult with existing and prospective clients, internal sales force and centers of influence as required. Promote greater awareness of firm’s manager research capabilities and serve as ‘subject matter expert’ on manager research/due diligence process and assigned manager/fund coverage array.

Develop personal professional network through meeting with new or existing managers/fund complexes, and through attendance/participation in capital introduction and industry conferences as required.

Conduct research, gather and analyze competitive intelligence and keep abreast of industry developments and trends.

Monitor existing managers and produce periodic updates/reports for internal (and client) use. Lead or facilitate periodic manager/fund calls and contribute to production of all investment communications relating to recommended/ approved managers and funds.

Serve as a mentor to other members of the investment organization as needed. Working with the Director, foster and promote a high performance, inclusive work environment that encourages engagement, collaboration and attainment of all financial and non-financial goals and metrics.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge, Education, Certification, Licenses

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, statistics, economics or related discipline/field of study. Strong command/knowledge of investment management, manager research/due diligence, traditional equity and/or fixed income analysis, as well as latest research methods and instruments.

Preferred:

Attainment of graduate degree in business administration, finance, accounting, statistics/math, economics or related discipline/field of study, e.g., MBA, MS Finance, etc. Attainment of one or more professional designations evidencing additional professional development beyond academics, e.g., CFA, CFP, CTFA, CAIA, etc.

Skills and Abilities

Required:

Exceptional research, analytical, reasoning, problem solving, interpersonal and communications (both written and verbal) skills. Proven ability to relate to and influence audiences through verbal and written communications at all levels of sophistication (novice to expert). Demonstrated success in translating complex analytical or technical information into understandable terms. Ability to digest technical, theoretical, and other relevant information independently.

Preferred:

Advance statistical methods and strategic business acumen.

Experience

Required:

5 years of related experience for level 1 analyst (grade 49) and 10 years of related experience for level 2 analyst (grade 51) in manager research/due diligence or related investment field. Inter-disciplinary background in related industries, finance and economics may be considered in lieu of specific experience in manager research/due diligence.

Preferred:

Established track record of sourcing managers/funds that have consistently outperformed their respective benchmarks or peer universes. Industry recognition as a leading thought leader in the field of manager research/due diligence.
